Questions & Answers about Он уезжает в столицу, чтобы получить хорошее образование.
How does the чтобы clause work here, and why is it followed by an infinitive?
Чтобы means "in order to". When the person doing the action in the first part of the sentence (he is leaving) is the exact same person doing the action in the purpose clause (he gets the education), we simply use чтобы followed directly by the infinitive verb (получить).
Why is "capital" written as в столицу instead of в столице?
Because he is moving toward a destination. With verbs of motion like уезжает (is leaving for), the preposition в takes the Accusative case, changing the feminine ending -а in столица to -у. If he were already located in the capital, you would use the Prepositional case (в столице).
Why do we use the perfective verb получить instead of the imperfective получать?
He is going to the capital with a specific end goal: to successfully acquire an education as a completed result. The perfective получить emphasizes achieving this final result, whereas the imperfective would focus more on the ongoing process of receiving it.
