Questions & Answers about Она приглашает популярных режиссёров на интервью.
Why do популярных режиссёров look like they are in the genitive case instead of the accusative?
Because 'directors' are living people, which makes them animate nouns. In the plural, the accusative case (used here for the direct object of the verb) completely copies the genitive case for animate nouns and their adjectives. That is why we use популярных режиссёров instead of the basic plural популярные режиссёры.
Why use на for 'for'? Couldn't we use для?
In Russian, when you invite someone to attend an event, gathering, or activity, you use на followed by the accusative case. While English says 'for an interview', the Russian phrasing is closer to 'to an interview'. The preposition для is used for the intended beneficiary of an object, not for attending an event.
What case is интервью in, and why doesn't it have a special ending?
It is in the accusative case because it follows the directional preposition на. However, интервью is a borrowed foreign word. Like many borrowed nouns ending in a vowel (such as кино or метро), it is indeclinable. It stays exactly the same in every grammatical case.
Why does the sentence use the imperfective verb приглашает?
The imperfective verb приглашает (invites / is inviting) shows that this is a habitual or ongoing action. It implies she does this regularly, likely as part of her job as a journalist or talk show host.
