Они каждый день видятся в университете.

Questions & Answers about Они каждый день видятся в университете.

What does the -ся add to the verb видятся here?
The base verb видеть means 'to see'. Adding the reflexive particle -ся makes it видеться. While -ся often means doing something to yourself, with plural subjects like они (they), it usually creates a reciprocal meaning: 'to see each other'.
Our current lesson uses с + Instrumental with these verbs. Why isn't there a с in this sentence?
You only need с (with) plus the Instrumental case if the sentence is structured like 'Person A sees Person B' (Он видится с ней). Because this sentence groups the subjects together as Они (They), the 'each other' meaning is already covered by the verb itself, so no extra preposition is needed.
Why is каждый день used without a preposition?
To say how often something happens (like 'every day' or 'every week'), Russian uses the Accusative case with no preposition. Because день is a masculine inanimate noun, its Accusative form looks exactly the same as its basic Nominative form.
Why does видятся end in -ятся instead of -ются?
The verb видеть is an exception. Even though its infinitive ends in -еть, it follows the second conjugation pattern (like most -ить verbs). Therefore, the 'they' form takes the -ят ending before adding -ся, resulting in видятся.
