В деревне плохая связь и нет интернета.

From Lesson 53:Absence (нет)·Russian

Questions & Answers about В деревне плохая связь и нет интернета.

Why does интернет have an -а at the end here (интернета)?
This is because of the word нет (there is no). In Russian, when you state that something doesn't exist or isn't present using нет, the thing that is missing must be in the Genitive case. Since интернет is a masculine noun ending in a consonant, we add -а to make it интернета.
Why do we use the feminine adjective плохая (bad) with the word связь?
Because связь (connection) is a feminine noun. Nouns ending in a soft sign (-ь) can be either masculine or feminine, and unfortunately, you just have to memorize which is which! Since it is feminine here, the adjective changes to match it: плохая.
Why is it в деревне and not в деревня?
The sentence is talking about a location ("in the village"), so we need the Prepositional case. The dictionary form is деревня (village). To make it Prepositional after the preposition в (in), the feminine ending -я changes to -е, giving us в деревне.
The translation says "There is a bad connection", but I don't see a verb. Where is it?
Russian usually leaves out the verb "to be" (is, am, are) in the present tense. Literally, the first part of the sentence just says "In village bad connection." The word нет in the second half functions as the verb phrase "there is no".
