Vino încoace, dacă vrei să mă ajuți!

Questions & Answers about Vino încoace, dacă vrei să mă ajuți!

Why is the command form vino instead of something like vine?
The verb a veni (to come) has an irregular command form. Instead of following the normal rules for verbs ending in -i, it takes the special form vino when telling one person to come. This is one of a few high-frequency irregular imperatives you just have to memorize!
Could I say aici instead of încoace?
You can, and people will understand you, but încoace is much more natural here. While aici means a fixed location (here), încoace implies movement toward the speaker (this way or hither). Because vino is an action of moving towards someone, încoace is the perfect match.
Why do we need the word să before mă ajuți?
In English you say you want TO help, using the dictionary form of the verb. In Romanian, after verbs expressing a wish or desire like a vrea (to want), you use the connecting word să followed by the conjugated verb. It literally translates closer to: if you want that you help me.
Why does the pronoun mă go directly after să?
Short object pronouns like mă (me) almost always go directly in front of the action they belong to (ajuți). When you use să to connect verbs, the pronoun always squeezes right between să and the verb itself: să mă ajuți.
