Questions & Answers about Tu mănânci salata proaspătă.
How do we know it says "the salad" and not just "a salad"?
In Romanian, the word for "the" is attached to the end of the noun. The basic word for a salad is salată. To say "the salad", the final ă changes to an a, making it salata.
Why does the word for "fresh" come after the word for "salad"?
Unlike in English, Romanian adjectives usually come right after the noun they describe. So instead of "fresh salad", you say "the salad fresh" (salata proaspătă).
Why does proaspătă end with an ă instead of its dictionary form proaspăt?
Adjectives in Romanian have to match the gender of the noun they describe. Since salată is a feminine noun, the adjective takes the feminine ending ă, becoming proaspătă.
Do I always have to use the word tu when saying "you eat"?
