Doing Things "Without" Doing Others
To describe doing something without doing something else, English uses "without" plus an "-ing" verb (like "without speaking"). Romanian uses the preposition fără followed by the subjunctive mood (să + verb).
| The magician does the trick without talking about his magic. |
| The invisible man sneaks behind the house without making noise. |
Changing Subjects and Adding Pronouns
The main and secondary actions can have different subjects. Just conjugate the verb after să to match the new subject.
| The illusion is perfect, and the magician disappears without you blinking. |
If the secondary action includes an object pronoun, place it directly between să and the verb.
| She loves the mystery and does the magic without anyone seeing her. |
| The cat sneaks under the table and appears without me hearing it. |
