Indefinite pronouns in Genitive and Dative (fiecăruia, oricărei)

Indefinite Adjectives in Genitive and Dative

Words like fiecare (each/every) and oricare (any) change form in the Genitive (possession, "of each") and Dative (recipient, "to any") depending on the noun's gender.

When modifying a noun directly, they act as adjectives:

GenderEach / EveryAny
Masculine / Neuterfiecăruioricărui
Femininefiecăreioricărei

Nouns following these adjectives do not take a definite article. Feminine nouns use their Genitive/Dative form (which usually matches their plural), while masculine and neuter nouns use their basic singular form.

Here they are in the Dative case (indicating "to whom"):

As soon as I received the approval, I offered the bonus to each employee.
De îndată ce am primit aprobarea, i-am oferit bonusul fiecărui angajat.
You had to offer a bonus to each female colleague in the team.
Trebuia să îi oferi un bonus fiecărei colege din echipă.

And in the Genitive case (indicating "of whom" or "whose"):

The effort of any employee matters very much.
Efortul oricărui angajat contează foarte mult.
We had to respect the decision of any nurse.
A trebuit să respectăm decizia oricărei asistente.

Indefinite Pronouns

When standing alone to mean "everyone," "each one," or "anyone," they become pronouns. Simply add -a to the adjective forms:

GenderEveryone / Each oneAnyone

Femininefiecăreiaoricăreia

Use them on their own:

Because they worked a lot, I gave the distinction to everyone.
Pentru că au muncit mult, i-am dăruit distincția fiecăruia.
I do not tell the password to just anyone, but only to each employee.
Nu îi spun parola oricăruia, ci doar fiecărui angajat.

They are also required before the preposition dintre (of / among):
