The most common way to form the future tense in everyday Romanian is the colloquial future. Use it for both spontaneous predictions and planned events.
The formula is simple: the invariable word o, followed by the subjunctive form of the verb (să + verb).
o + să + [verb]
Unlike other future tense forms in Romanian, o never changes, no matter who is doing the action. The verb after să simply conjugates to match the subject.
| This event is going to be fantastic. | Acest eveniment o să fie fantastic. |
| The guests will probably come to the festival. | Invitații o să vină probabil la festival. |
| This speech is going to be long. | Acest discurs o să fie lung. |
Reflexive Verbs
When using reflexive verbs, place the reflexive pronoun (mă, te, se, ne, vă) directly between să and the verb.
| I am going to have fun at the festival. | O să mă distrez la festival. |
| We are going to enjoy this exhibition. | O să ne bucurăm de această expoziție. |
| You will have fun, and the atmosphere is going to be good. | O să vă distrați, iar atmosfera o să fie bună. |
Predictions and Conditions
You will frequently hear this tense used to make predictions or to describe what will happen if a condition is met.
| The exhibition will probably be fantastic. | Probabil, expoziția o să fie fantastică. |
| I believe that you will enjoy the atmosphere. | Cred că o să te bucuri de atmosferă. |
| If the weather is good, we are going to have fun at the festival. | Dacă vremea e bună, o să ne distrăm la festival. |
