Chess, concerts and the stadium (șahul, formația)

Playing: a juca șah

After a juca, a game or sport takes no article: joc șah, joc fotbal. With the article, șahul is chess as a thing you talk about.

Șahul cere multă răbdare.

On the stadium

Romanian puts you pe a stadium, not in it: pe stadion. The same preposition works for an event held there.

We're going to the stadium for the match.
Mergem pe stadion la meci.
The concert is taking place at the stadium.
Concertul are loc pe stadion.

Bands and singers

A formație is a band, and cântărețul is the singer (a woman is a cântăreață). Remember that a cânta covers both singing and playing: a cânta la chitară is to play the guitar.

The singer has a beautiful voice.
Cântărețul are o voce frumoasă.

Noise and company

Gălăgia is the noise people make, shouting and talking and laughing, and you faci gălăgie. Zgomotul is any noise, a machine's included.

The kids are making a racket in the yard.
Copiii fac gălăgie în curte.
I can't sleep because of the racket.
Nu pot dormi din cauza gălăgiei.

An amic is a friend. It is often used for a looser friendship than prieten: a pal, a buddy.

I went to a concert with a buddy.
Am mers la concert cu un amic.
He's a pal from work.
E un amic de la serviciu.
