Why do we use estamos instead of somos for 'we are'?
Estamos is a form of the verb estar, which is used for temporary states and locations. Because being aqui (here) is a location, we must use estar rather than ser, which is used for more permanent things.
Is it mandatory to include the word Nós?
Not at all! In Portuguese, the verb ending usually tells you who the subject is. The ending of estamos already means 'we are', so you can just drop the pronoun and say Estamos aqui. This actually sounds much more natural in everyday speech.
What does Até logo mean literally?
The word até means 'until' and logo means 'later' or 'soon'. Literally, you are saying 'until later'. This is the standard way to say 'See you later' when you expect to see the person again on the exact same day.
Can I use Até to say goodbye in other ways?
Yes, até is the building block for many Portuguese farewells. You just swap out the time word that comes after it! For example, Até amanhã means 'See you tomorrow' and Até já means 'See you in a very short while'.
