Questions & Answers about Nowy użytkownik dziękuje za dostęp.
Why do we use za dostęp here instead of just putting dostęp in a specific case?
When you thank someone for something in Polish, you are conceptually treating it like an exchange or transaction. Because of this, the verb dziękować requires the preposition za followed by the Accusative case for the thing you are receiving. (Note: if you also mention the person being thanked, that person goes in the Dative case, but the item thanked for always uses za).
If za requires the Accusative case, why does dostęp look exactly like its dictionary form?
Dostęp (access) is a masculine inanimate noun. In Polish grammar, masculine inanimate nouns (as well as neuter nouns) have the exact same form in the Accusative case as they do in their Nominative (dictionary) form. Therefore, it doesn't take a new ending here.
How is the word użytkownik formed?
It is built from the root of the verb używać (to use). The suffix -ownik is a very common building block in Polish used to create nouns for people who perform a specific activity or hold a role. It works exactly like the '-er' ending in the English word 'user' or 'worker'.
Why does the verb dziękuje end in -uje?
The infinitive of this verb is dziękować (to thank). As a quick refresher, any Polish verb ending in -ować drops that ending and replaces it with -uj- in the present tense before adding its personal ending. Here, we add -e for the third-person singular (he/she/it).
