Questions & Answers about Czy ktokolwiek wie, gdzie jedziemy?
Could I use ktoś instead of ktokolwiek here?
You could, but it changes the nuance. Czy ktoś wie? simply means "Does someone know?". Using ktokolwiek means "Does anyone at all know?" The -kolwiek suffix emphasizes that it doesn't matter who the person is, making the question broader or perhaps more desperate.
Does ktokolwiek always take a singular verb like wie?
Yes. Just like "anyone" or "anybody" in English, ktokolwiek is treated grammatically as a single entity. That is why we use the 3rd-person singular form wie (he/she/it knows) instead of a plural form.
How do I decline ktokolwiek if it's the object of a sentence rather than the subject?
You decline the kto part exactly as you normally would, and just attach -kolwiek to the end. For example, the accusative of kto is kogo. If you wanted to ask "Do you see anyone at all?", you would say Czy widzisz kogokolwiek?
Why does the sentence use jedziemy instead of idziemy for "we are going"?
This is a great reminder that Polish requires you to specify how you are traveling. Idziemy strictly means going on foot. By using jedziemy, the speaker explicitly states they are currently traveling in a vehicle (like a car, bus, or train), even though the English translation just says "going".
