Questions & Answers about Ten sok jest znacznie słodszy od mleka.
The lesson mentions using bardziej for comparisons, so why isn't it bardziej słodki here?
While many adjectives use bardziej (more) to form comparisons, short and common adjectives like słodki (sweet) often have their own special one-word form. Here, słodki changes to słodszy (sweeter).
Why is it od mleka instead of od mleko?
When comparing two things using the preposition od (than), the noun that follows must always take the Genitive case. Mleko is a neuter noun, and its Genitive form ends in -a, making it mleka.
How does znacznie work here? Could I use bardzo instead to say "very sweeter"?
Znacznie translates to "considerably" or "significantly" and is the natural way to express "much sweeter" in Polish. You cannot use bardzo (very) with comparative adjectives. To say "much more [adjective]", you should use znacznie or dużo.
Why does the adjective end in -y (słodszy) rather than -a or -e?
