Questions & Answers about Nie interesujemy się muzyką.
Why does the word for music change to muzyką in this sentence?
The verb interesować się (to be interested in) always requires the noun following it to be in the Instrumental case. For regular feminine nouns like muzyka, this means changing the final -a to -ą.
What is the purpose of się here?
Się is a reflexive word that means "oneself". While in English you say "we are interested", in Polish you literally say "we interest ourselves". The verb interesować needs się to show that you hold the interest yourself, rather than you making someone else interested.
Why is the word my (we) missing from the beginning of the sentence?
In Polish, it is very common to drop subject pronouns like ja (I) or my (we) because the verb already tells you who is acting. The -emy ending on interesujemy clearly means "we".
How would I change this sentence to say "I am not interested in music"?
You only need to change the verb to the "I" form, which is interesuję. The whole sentence becomes Nie interesuję się muzyką. The noun muzyką stays exactly the same.
