Why is wejść in the dictionary form (infinitive) instead of a command form?
In Polish, a very common and polite way to tell someone to do something is to use proszę (please) followed directly by the dictionary form of the verb. You don't need to use a special command form for this polite structure!
Does proszę just mean "please"?
We usually translate it as "please", but proszę literally means "I ask" or "I request". Because it actually means "I ask", it makes perfect sense that the next word is an infinitive: "I ask to enter".
I know the verb iść (to go/walk). Is wejść related to it?
