Questions & Answers about Gdzie jest to nowe menu?
Does the question word Gdzie change the word order of the sentence?
Yes, it generally does! In Polish, after a question word like Gdzie (where), we typically put the verb right away. So we say Gdzie jest... (Where is...) instead of putting the subject first.
Why do we use to nowe (this new) instead of ten nowy or ta nowa?
Because the noun menu is neuter. In Polish, adjectives and pointing words (like "this") must match the gender of the noun they describe. Therefore, we use the neuter forms to (this) and nowe (new).
How can I tell that menu is a neuter noun? It doesn't end in -o, -e, or -um!
You're right, it breaks the usual gender rules! Menu is a foreign word borrowed from French. In Polish, many foreign loanwords that don't fit the typical noun endings are automatically grouped into the neuter gender.
Will the word menu change its ending if I use it in a different grammatical case?
No, you're in luck! Because menu is a borrowed word with an unusual ending for Polish, it is "indeclinable." That means it stays exactly as menu no matter what role it plays in the sentence.
