Questions & Answers about To narzędzie nie jest ani pomocne mechanikom, ani przydatne kierowcom.
Why are mechanikom and kierowcom in the Dative case here?
They are the objects of the adjectives pomocne (helpful) and przydatne (useful). Just like in English where something is helpful to someone, Polish uses the Dative case after these specific adjectives to show who is receiving the benefit or effect.
Why is there a nie before jest when we already have ani... ani... (neither... nor...)?
Polish strictly enforces double negation. Unlike English, where the phrase neither... nor... makes the sentence negative on its own, Polish requires the main verb to also be negated with nie. A literal translation would be: This tool is not neither helpful... nor useful.
Why do the adjectives pomocne and przydatne end in -e instead of matching the plural mechanics and drivers?
Adjectives must agree in gender, number, and case with the noun they describe, not the noun that follows them. Here, they describe To narzędzie (This tool), which is a neuter singular noun, so both adjectives take the neuter singular ending -e.
Is the -om ending on mechanikom and kierowcom standard for this case?
Yes! One of the most reliable rules in Polish grammar is that the Dative plural ending is almost always -om, regardless of whether the noun is masculine, feminine, or neuter.
