Why is it non è instead of è non like "is not" in English?
In Italian, the negative word non always goes before the verb. Since the verb here is è (is), you must place non right in front of it to say "is not". You can never put non after the verb.
Why do we use Questo here instead of Questa?
Questo means "this", and its ending has to match the noun it describes. Because negozio (shop) is a masculine singular noun, we use the masculine singular form Questo.
Why does chiuso end in an -o?
Chiuso (closed) is an adjective describing the shop. Just like the word for "this", it must match the gender and number of negozio. Since negozio is masculine and singular, chiuso takes the masculine singular -o ending.
Does negozio mean "negotiation"?
It looks like it, but negozio is a false friend! In everyday Italian, a negozio is simply a physical shop or store.
