### Multiple Negatives

In Italian, multiple negative words can stack in the same sentence to emphasize absence or impossibility. Unlike English, these negatives reinforce rather than cancel each other out.

When negative words like **mai** (never), **nessuno** (nobody), or **nulla** (nothing) come after the verb, the sentence must still begin with **non**. You can chain them to say things like "nothing ever" (**non... mai nulla**) or "nobody ever" (**non... mai nessuno**).

### Compound Tenses

When stacking negatives in a compound tense like the *passato prossimo*, **mai** usually sits directly between the helping verb and the past participle. The second negative word, such as **nessuno** or **nulla**, follows the past participle.
