When describing how an action is performed, you use an adverb. Just like in English, the Italian adverbs for "well" (**bene**) and "badly" (**male**) have irregular comparative forms: **meglio** (better) and **peggio** (worse).

To say you do something "better than" or "worse than" someone or something else, use **meglio** or **peggio** followed by the preposition **di** (than).

When the word following **di** requires a definite article, **di** combines with it to form an articulated preposition (like **del** or **della**). You can also use **di** to compare actions against time expressions like **prima** (before) or **solito** (usual).
