Questions & Answers about Stafrænt upplýsingaflæði er oft alltof hratt.
How is the compound word upplýsingaflæði put together?
It is made of upplýsinga, which is the genitive (possessive) plural of upplýsing (information), and the neuter noun flæði (flow). In Icelandic, compound nouns often use the genitive case for the first part to link them together, literally meaning "flow of informations".
Why do both stafrænt and hratt end in -t here?
They are describing the neuter noun flæði (flow), so they must take the neuter singular nominative form. Their dictionary forms are stafrænn (digital) and hraður (fast).
What is the difference between using alltof and just of?
Both mean "too" (as in excessive), but alltof is stronger, translating closer to "way too" or "far too". It is a compound of allt (all) and of (too), commonly used in Icelandic to add emphasis.
If I wanted to say "Such digital information flow...", how would I apply this lesson's formal word for "such" (slíkur)?
You would add slíkt at the beginning: Slíkt stafrænt upplýsingaflæði... Because flæði is a neuter noun, you must use the neuter singular nominative form of slíkur, which is slíkt. In written registers, this is a more formal alternative to using the invariable svona or þannig.
