In English, you can express doing something for someone's benefit by using the word "for" (e.g., "I baked a cake *for you*") or by placing the person right after the verb ("I baked *you* a cake").

Icelandic heavily relies on the second approach. When an action is performed to benefit someone, the person receiving the favor simply takes the **dative case**. This is known as the *dative of advantage*.

The standard sentence order is:
**Subject + Verb + Beneficiary (Dative) + Direct Object (Accusative)**
