Learn Hardcore Spanish (Latin America): El programa es muy interesante.

In Spanish, the word programa is masculine, despite ending in the letter “-a.” This is because it comes from a Greek root, and many Greek-derived words that end in “-ma” are masculine in Spanish.

Why do we say es instead of está here?

We use es (a form of the verb “ser”) to describe a characteristic of the program. Estar is generally used for temporary conditions or locations, while ser is used for inherent qualities.

Does interesante change for masculine or feminine nouns?

No, interesante has only one form. It does not change whether the noun is masculine or feminine; it remains interesante for both.

Why do we say muy interesante instead of mucho interesante?

Muy is used to intensify adjectives and adverbs (like “very” in English). Mucho is generally used with nouns or verbs to mean “a lot of.” Since interesante is an adjective, the correct choice is muy.
