Questions & Answers about У нас получается работать вместе.
Why does the sentence use у нас instead of just мы?
Russian uses у + Genitive (here, у нас) to mark the experiencer/possessor in impersonal structures. It literally means “at us/with us,” but in this pattern it means “for us.” So у нас получается… = “it works out for us / we manage to…”
If it’s about “us,” why is the verb получается in 3rd-person singular?
Because the clause is impersonal: literally “it is turning out (for us) to work together.” Russian keeps получается in 3rd-person singular; у нас tells you who it’s working for.
What nuance does получается add compared to saying мы можем?
- получается: “it works out,” “we’re managing,” often implying practical success (sometimes after effort) rather than mere ability.
- мы можем: “we can,” focusing on ability/permission. So У нас получается работать вместе = “Working together is working out for us,” not just “We’re able to.”
Can I replace получается with удаётся?
Yes: Нам удаётся работать вместе (note the dative нам). Удаваться is a bit more formal and can imply success despite difficulty or thanks to luck.
