How do I pronounce Þú and góður?
Þ is pronounced like the th in think, and ð in góður is pronounced more like the th in this. You’ll also want to make sure you roll the r slightly at the end of góður if you can.
Why is the verb ert used here and not er?
Icelandic has different forms of the verb vera (to be) depending on the person. Ert is the second-person singular form (corresponding to you in English), while er is used for the third-person singular (he/she/it) and also for the first-person singular (I).
What if I want to say you are good to more than one person?
If you’re talking to more than one person, you use þið (plural you). In that case, the verb form changes to eruð. So it becomes Þið eruð góð (with possible adjective endings adjusted depending on who you’re speaking to).
Does góður change depending on gender?
Yes. If you’re addressing a male or a grammatically masculine subject, you use góður. If you’re addressing a female or a grammatically feminine subject, you would say góð. There are also other forms for neuter and the plural, but the core meaning remains the same.
