What does zaslužuje come from, and what form is it?
Zaslužuje is the 3rd person singular present tense of the verb zaslužiti, which means to deserve or to earn.
So it can mean:
- he deserves
- she deserves
- it deserves
- (someone/something) deserves
Croatian often leaves the subject unstated if it is clear from context, so zaslužuje by itself does not tell you whether the subject is he, she, or it.
Why is there no subject in the sentence?
Croatian is a pro-drop language, which means subject pronouns are often omitted because the verb ending already gives grammatical information.
In Zaslužuje odgovor., the subject is simply understood from context. English usually needs a subject, but Croatian often does not.
For example, depending on context, this could mean:
