Questions & Answers about Ich frage mich, inwiefern der Produzent profitiert.
What is the difference between inwiefern and inwieweit in this sentence?
In this context, there is practically no difference. Both translate to "to what extent" or "in what way." You could easily say Ich frage mich, inwieweit der Produzent profitiert, and the meaning would remain exactly the same.
Why is the verb profitiert at the very end of the sentence?
The word inwiefern acts as a subordinating conjunction here, introducing an indirect question. Because indirect questions function as subordinate clauses in German, the conjugated verb (profitiert) must be pushed to the very end of the clause.
Why is the reflexive pronoun mich necessary here instead of just saying Ich frage?
The reflexive verb sich fragen specifically means "to wonder" or "to ask oneself". If you simply wrote Ich frage, it would mean "I am asking [someone else]", which would leave the sentence feeling incomplete without specifying who you are talking to.
If I wanted to add what the producer is profiting from, how would I build that into the sentence?
The verb profitieren always pairs with the preposition von followed by the dative case. To say "...in what way the producer profits from the deal", you would write: ...inwiefern der Produzent von dem Geschäft profitiert.
