Questions & Answers about Der Verlag zeigte einige bunte Neuerscheinungen.
Why does bunte end in -e instead of -en?
This ties into your current lesson! Words like einige, viele, and mehrere do not act like definite articles in the plural; they act like normal adjectives. Because there is no definite article like die or alle to take the strong ending, both einige and bunte take the strong plural accusative ending, which is -e. If you used alle, it would be alle bunten Neuerscheinungen.
Is the phrase einige bunte Neuerscheinungen in the accusative case?
Yes, it is the direct object being shown by the publisher. For plural nouns with no definite article (or with indefinite words like einige), the nominative and accusative adjective endings are exactly the same: they both end in -e.
How do you break down the word Neuerscheinungen?
It is a compound noun made of the adjective neu (new) and the plural noun die Erscheinungen (appearances or releases). The base verb is erscheinen, which means to appear or to be published.
Does Verlag refer to the publishing company or the person?
Der Verlag refers specifically to the publishing house or company. If you want to talk about a person who is a publisher, you would use der Verleger for a man or die Verlegerin for a woman.
