Questions & Answers about Ein Erfahrener vergisst die Zielperson nie.
Why does Erfahrener have an -er ending here?
Erfahrener is a nominalized adjective, which means it is an adjective acting as a noun. Because it follows the indefinite article ein in the nominative case and refers to a masculine person, it takes the strong ending -er. If it referred to a woman, it would be Eine Erfahrene.
Why is the verb vergisst and not vergesst?
The verb vergessen (to forget) is a strong verb that changes its stem vowel from e to i in the second and third person singular (du and er/sie/es). Since ein Erfahrener acts as a third-person singular subject (like er), the verb becomes vergisst.
How do we know the gender of Zielperson?
In German compound nouns, the very last word determines the gender. Since die Person is feminine, the combined word die Zielperson is also feminine. That is why the sentence uses the feminine accusative article die.
Why is nie placed at the very end of the sentence?
Adverbs of time like nie (never) generally come after the conjugated verb and known direct objects. Here, the direct object is die Zielperson. Placing nie at the end effectively negates the entire action of forgetting that specific person.
