Questions & Answers about Die neue App funktioniert ab morgen.
Why do we use ab here instead of seit?
The preposition ab means "starting from" and is used for events that begin in the future or the present. Because this app starts working tomorrow, we use ab. You would use seit (since/for) for something that already started in the past.
Why is the verb funktioniert in the present tense if the action happens tomorrow?
In German, you can usually use the present tense to talk about the future, as long as there is a time word (like morgen) in the sentence that makes it clear the action hasn't happened yet. You don't need to use the formal future tense with werden.
Why is morgen not capitalized in this sentence?
When written with a lowercase m, morgen is a time word (an adverb) meaning "tomorrow". If it were capitalized (der Morgen), it would be the noun meaning "the morning".
Why does the adjective neue end in -e?
The word App is a feminine noun (die App). Because it is the subject of the sentence (nominative case) and comes right after the definite article die, the adjective takes the standard -e ending.
