Questions & Answers about Hundert Leute sind auf der Party.
Why does the German sentence just say Hundert instead of Ein hundert for 'A hundred'?
In German, you do not need to say ein (one or a) before hundert (hundred) or tausend (thousand). You can just say Hundert all by itself to mean 'a hundred'.
Why do we use the verb sind (are) here?
We use sind because Leute (people) is a plural noun. Just like in English, you must use the plural form of the verb, so we say 'people are' (Leute sind).
Why is it auf der Party and not auf die Party?
The preposition auf can take either the accusative or dative case. Because we are talking about a fixed location (where the people currently are, not where they are going), we use the dative case. The word Party is feminine (die Party), and in the dative case, the feminine word die changes to der.
