Questions & Answers about L'animateur se charge de la réunion.

Why does "animateur" translate to "facilitator" here? Is it a false friend?

It can be! While un animateur can mean an "animator" who makes cartoons, it is much more commonly used for someone who leads or hosts. Depending on the context, it translates to a TV/radio host, an activities leader at a resort, a camp counselor, or a meeting facilitator.

Why is the verb "se charge" reflexive here? What happens if we just use "charge"?

The base verb charger means "to load" (like a truck or a phone battery). By making it reflexive, se charger de literally means "to load oneself with" something. In everyday French, this is the standard way to say "to take charge of", "to take care of", or "to handle" a task or responsibility.

If I want to say "The facilitator takes charge of it", how do I replace "de la réunion"?

Because the verb requires the preposition de (se charger de), you must use the pronoun en to replace the thing being taken care of. The sentence becomes: L'animateur s'en charge.

Does "réunion" mean the same thing as a "reunion" in English?

Almost never! Une réunion is the standard French word for a business, work, or club meeting. If you want to talk about a high school or family reunion, you would usually use the word des retrouvailles (a gathering of people who haven't seen each other in a while) or specifically say une réunion de famille.
