Why does rose come after couleur instead of before it like in English?
In French, most adjectives, including all colors, are placed after the noun they describe. So instead of saying "the pink color," you say la couleur rose (the color pink).
Why do we use la with couleur?
The noun couleur (color) is feminine in French, so it uses la for "the". Even though many feminine words in French end in -e, couleur is an exception, which makes it a great word to memorize!
Why does jolie have an -e at the end?
Adjectives have to match the gender of the noun they describe. Because la couleur is feminine, the masculine adjective joli (pretty) gets an extra -e added to the end to become jolie.
If couleur is feminine, why doesn't rose get an extra -e at the end as well?
