Demain, on se promène sur la plage.

From Lesson 66:Informal 'we' (on)·French

Questions & Answers about Demain, on se promène sur la plage.

Why does the translation say "we" when the French sentence uses on?
In everyday spoken French, on is very commonly used instead of nous to mean "we". Even though on literally translates to "one" or "people in general", French speakers use it as a casual "we" all the time.
If on means "we", why don't we use the nous verb ending?
Even when on means "we" in conversation, it always follows the grammatical rules for the "he/she/it" form (third-person singular). That is why we use promène instead of promenons.
What does the se mean in on se promène?
The verb for "to take a walk" or "to stroll" is se promener. It is a reflexive verb, which means it needs an extra pronoun that matches the subject. For il, elle, and on, that matching pronoun is always se.
Why does the sentence use the present tense (se promène) for something happening tomorrow (demain)?
Just like in English, you can often use the French present tense to talk about a firmly planned future event. Adding a time word like demain (tomorrow) makes it completely clear that the action is happening in the future.
