Why does où have an accent mark?
The accent changes the meaning! Où with an accent means "where", which is perfect for asking about locations. If you write ou without an accent, it means "or". Both words are pronounced exactly the same way.
Why is it l'hôpital instead of le hôpital?
In French, the letter "h" is usually silent, so the word acts like it starts with a vowel sound. Just like you drop the "e" in le before a regular vowel, you also drop it before a silent "h" so the words flow together easily. So, le + hôpital becomes l'hôpital.
Does tout droit mean "to the right"?
No, tout droit means "straight ahead". It is extremely easy to confuse with à droite, which means "to the right". Notice that tout droit (straight) does not end in an "e", while à droite (right) does.
Why use Vous allez instead of Tu vas here?
Vous is the formal version of "you". When you are lost and asking a stranger for directions to the hospital, it is polite and expected to use vous. You would only use tu vas if you were giving directions to a friend.
