Why does the verb change to asu instead of asun?
In Finnish negative sentences, the personal ending (like the -n for "I") is attached to the negative verb instead of the main verb. So "I do not" becomes en, and the main verb asua (to live) takes its base negative form asu without any personal ending.
The lesson says the main verb should be in its "weak grade" form. Why doesn't asu change?
Consonant gradation (making a word "weak") only affects words that contain the consonants p, t, or k. Since the stem of asua only has an s, there are no consonants to weaken. You simply drop the final -a to get the negative stem asu.
Why is enää placed in the middle of the sentence instead of at the end like in English?
In Finnish, the word enää (anymore) usually comes right after the negative verb (en) and before the main verb (asu). The literal word order is "I do not anymore live here."
