Learn Farsi: قیمت هلو امروز گران است. - The price of peaches is expensive today.

Farsi uses a hidden connecting sound called the ezafe to link words together. When you read قیمت هلو, you pronounce it as qeymat-e holu. The -e sound acts like the English word 'of', connecting قیمت (price) directly to هلو (peach).

Why does the translation say 'peaches' but the Farsi word هلو is singular?

In Farsi, when you talk about a general category or a type of food, you usually use the singular form. Even though هلو literally means 'peach', we are talking about the fruit in general here, so it translates naturally as plural in English.

Why is امروز (today) in the middle of the sentence instead of at the end?

In Farsi, time words like امروز are usually placed early in the sentence, right after the subject. The full subject here is the phrase قیمت هلو (the price of peaches), so the time word comes right after it, before the adjective گران (expensive) and the verb است (is) which always goes at the very end.

Is it normal to say a price is گران (expensive) in Farsi?

Yes! In English, we usually say the item is expensive but the price is 'high'. In Farsi, it is perfectly natural and common to use گران (expensive) to describe the قیمت (price) itself.
