Questions & Answers about میشود حجم را چهار ممیز سه میلیلیتر خواند.
How is the decimal phrase چهار ممیز سه pronounced, and is there an invisible connector?
It is pronounced چهار ممیزِ سه (chahar momayyez-e se). When reading decimals, the word ممیز (momayyez), meaning "decimal point", requires an invisible ezafe to connect it to the fractional number that follows.
Why is the past tense form خواند used at the end of the sentence instead of the subjunctive?
Here, خواند is acting as a short infinitive (the past stem of the verb), not a past tense verb. When میشود is used impersonally to mean "one can" or "it is possible to", it must be followed by the short infinitive.
Why is the direct object marker را placed right after حجم instead of at the end of the number phrase?
In this sentence, حجم (the volume) is the specific direct object being read, and the decimal number is the object complement (what it is being read as). Since را only tags the direct object, it immediately follows حجم.
Does Farsi ever specify the place value, like saying "three tenths" for 4.3?
Yes, it is very common to state the fractional value. You will often hear چهار ممیز سه دهم (four point three tenths). However, just as in English, it is perfectly acceptable to just read the digits out sequentially as seen here without adding the place value.
