جمله‌ی من غلط بود؟

From Lesson 307:The classroom·Farsi

Questions & Answers about جمله‌ی من غلط بود؟

Why is there an extra ی attached to جمله?
The word for sentence is جمله (jomle), which ends in a silent 'heh' (sounding like 'e'). To say 'my sentence', you need to link it to من (man) using the ezāfe connector. Because جمله ends in a vowel sound, we insert a 'y' sound to bridge the gap, written here as ی to make جمله‌ی من (jomle-ye man).
There is no question word here like 'was'. How do we know it is a question?
In Farsi, yes/no questions almost always use the exact same word order as a normal statement. The only difference is the rising intonation at the end when speaking, and the question mark in writing. You could add آیا (āyā) at the very beginning to explicitly mark it as a formal question, but it is almost always dropped in everyday conversation.
Is there a difference between using غلط (ghalat) and اشتباه (eshtebāh) for 'wrong'?
They are very similar and often interchangeable. However, غلط (ghalat) is strongly associated with things that are factually or structurally incorrect, like a grammar error, a spelling mistake, or a wrong answer on a test. اشتباه (eshtebāh) is a bit broader and can also mean a behavioral mistake, a misunderstanding, or an error in judgment.
