Why does this sentence use به instead of just saying "I trust you"?
In Farsi, the verb for "to trust" is a compound verb: اعتماد داشتن, which literally means "to have trust". When you specify who you are trusting, Farsi requires the preposition به (to). So you are literally saying "I have trust to you."
Could I put به تو after the word for trust, like اعتماد به تو دارم?
It is much more natural to keep the compound verb اعتماد دارم together at the end of the sentence. Prepositional phrases like به تو almost always come right before the noun half of the compound verb in normal speech.
How would I use the grammar from this lesson to say "We trust each other"?
You would replace the pronoun تو with the reciprocal pronoun همدیگر (each other), and change the verb to the "we" form. The sentence becomes به همدیگر اعتماد داریم, which literally translates to "We have trust to each other."
