Questions & Answers about آنها میخواهند متقاضی شایستهای را جذب کنند.
Why do we have both the indefinite suffix '-i' on shâyeste-i and the definite object marker râ?
This combination is how Farsi marks a specific indefinite object. Normally, râ is for definite objects (the applicant) and -i is for indefinite ones (an applicant). Using both together means 'a certain' applicant. They do not have a specific person's name in mind yet, but they have a very specific, defined kind of person they want to recruit.
Why is the '-i' suffix attached to the adjective shâyeste (competent) instead of the noun motaghâzi (applicant)?
In Farsi, the indefinite -i always attaches to the very end of the noun phrase. Because the noun motaghâzi is modified by the adjective shâyeste, the -i gets pushed to the end of the adjective, resulting in the phrase motaghâzi-ye shâyeste-i.
How do you pronounce the spelling of شایستهای and why does it have an extra alef (ا)?
It is pronounced shâyeste-i. Because the adjective shâyeste ends in a silent 'h' (ه) which gives an 'e' sound, adding the 'i' (ی) suffix directly would cause two vowels to clash. The alef (ا) acts as a spelling bridge between them. Also, remember there is an invisible ezafe (pronounced 'ye' here) connecting the noun and adjective: motaghâzi-ye shâyeste-i.
Why is the final verb jazb konand instead of the indicative form jazb mi-konand?
The first verb, mi-khâhand (they want), triggers the subjunctive mood for the second verb because it expresses a desire or intention. jazb kardan (to recruit or attract) is a compound verb, so the helper part kardan becomes konand in the subjunctive for the 'they' form.
