Questions & Answers about آیا او گفت که مختصات جزیره را مخابره کرده است؟
Why does the Farsi sentence use the present perfect کرده است when the English translation uses the past perfect "had transmitted"?
This is a key difference in reported speech between the two languages. In English, we backshift the tense because the reporting verb is in the past. In Farsi, we usually keep the original tense the person used. The speaker originally said "I have transmitted" (مخابره کرده ام), so the reported version just changes the person to "he" but keeps the present perfect tense (مخابره کرده است).
Why is the direct object marker را placed after جزیره instead of right after the word for coordinates?
The word را marks a specific direct object, but it always attaches to the very end of the noun phrase. Because the direct object is the entire connected phrase "the coordinates of the island" (مختصات جزیره), the marker را must go at the very end of that group, right after جزیره.
Can we drop the word که in Farsi reported speech, just like we sometimes drop "that" in English?
Yes, just like in English, using که to link the main clause to the reported statement is very common but completely optional in spoken Farsi. However, including it makes the sentence flow very clearly, especially in formal or written contexts like this one.
Is the verb مخابره کردن used for sending everyday things like emails or packages?
No, مخابره کردن is specific to transmitting signals, broadcasts, or official messages, such as radio communications or military coordinates. For everyday sending like an email, a letter, or a package, you would use a more general verb like فرستادن instead.
