Questions & Answers about آهنگر و تعمیرکار با هم کار میکردند.
How is the word آهنگر (âhangar) formed?
It uses the suffix -gar, which you are learning in this lesson to form professions. The base word is آهن (âhan), meaning "iron". Adding -gar changes it to "one who works with iron" — a blacksmith.
What about تعمیرکار (ta'mirkâr)? Does it work the same way?
Yes! It uses the suffix -kâr, which is very similar to -gar. تعمیر (ta'mir) is a noun meaning "repair". Adding -kâr turns it into "repairer" or "repairman". Both suffixes attach to nouns to describe a person's profession or regular action.
Is با هم (bâ ham) the usual way to say "together"?
Yes. Literally meaning "with each other" (bâ = with, ham = each other), با هم (bâ ham) is the most standard and natural way to express "together" in Farsi.
Why is the verb کار میکردند (kâr mi-kardand) used here instead of کار کردند (kâr kardand)?
کار میکردند (kâr mi-kardand) is the past continuous tense ("were working"), formed by adding the prefix می (mi-) to the simple past verb. Because the sentence describes an ongoing action in the past rather than a single completed event, Farsi uses this continuous form.
