Questions & Answers about چون حادثه عمدی بود، او غرامت نگرفت.
I know barāye inke means because. Can I use it instead of chon here?
You could use it, but chon is much more natural when starting a sentence with the reason. Chon functions like since or because at the very beginning of a sentence. Barāye inke is usually placed in the middle of a sentence to explain the reason after the main action has already been stated.
How is the word amdi (intentional) formed?
It comes from the noun amd, which means intent or deliberate action. By adding the common adjective-forming suffix -i at the end, it becomes amdi (intentional).
Why use negereft (didn't take) for receiving compensation?
In English we often say a person receives compensation, but Farsi typically uses the verb gereftan (to get or to take) for getting money, awards, or damages. Here it has the negative prefix ne-, making the simple past verb negereft (he/she didn't get).
I am currently learning about conjunctions that need the subjunctive mood. Why is the verb bud (was) just in the normal past tense here?
Conjunctions like magar inke (unless) require the subjunctive mood because they deal with conditions or hypothetical situations. However, chon (because/since) introduces an established fact. Since the accident being intentional is a fact that actually happened, the normal simple past tense bud is used.
