From Lesson 142:Because (zirâ)·Farsi

Questions & Answers about این پروژه‌ی مهندسی خیلی هیجان‌انگیز است.

Why do we say prozhe-ye instead of just prozhe?
This is the Ezafe in action. In Farsi, when a noun is followed by a modifier (like an adjective or another noun), they are linked by a short vowel sound. Because prozhe ends in a vowel sound, we add a ye sound to bridge the gap smoothly, resulting in prozhe-ye mohandesi (project of engineering).
What is the difference between mohandes and mohandesi?
mohandes means "engineer" (the person). Adding the suffix -i at the end creates the word mohandesi, which means "engineering". Here, it acts as a modifying noun to describe the type of project.
How is the word heyjân-angiz (exciting) formed?
It is a descriptive compound word. The first part, heyjân, means "excitement" or "thrill". The second part, angiz, comes from a verb that means "to stir up" or "provoke". Put them together, and you get "excitement-stirring" — the Farsi way to say "exciting".
Why doesn't in (this) connect to prozhe with an Ezafe?
Unlike adjectives and modifying nouns, demonstrative words like in (this) and ân (that) always appear before the noun they point to. When a word comes before the noun like this, you simply place them side-by-side without an Ezafe connector.
