Questions & Answers about یک گیاهخوار هرگز گوشت خوک نمیخورد، اما بادمجان دوست دارد.
Why is the verb نمیخورد negative if هرگز already means "never"?
In Farsi, time words like هرگز (never) require the verb to be negative as well, creating a double negative. Even though we translate it as "never eats" in English, the literal Farsi structure is "never does not eat."
How is the word for vegetarian, گیاهخوار, put together?
It is a compound word made of two parts. گیاه means "plant," and خوار is a root from the verb خوردن (to eat). Together, they literally mean "plant-eater."
Why is there a hidden "e" sound between گوشت (meat) and خوک (pig)?
This is the Ezafe connection, which links a noun to another noun or adjective describing it. گوشتِ خوک literally means "meat of pig" (pork). The short "e" sound connects them but usually is not written in the Persian alphabet.
Since pork and eggplant are the objects of the verbs, why do we not use the object marker را here?
The marker را is only used for specific or definite direct objects, like "the eggplant" or "that pork". Because this sentence talks about eating pork and eggplant in general, we leave را out.
