هر رای‌دهنده باید در انتخابات رای بدهد.

From Lesson 138:Agent nouns (-ande)·Farsi

Questions & Answers about هر رای‌دهنده باید در انتخابات رای بدهد.

How does رای‌دهنده form an agent noun?
It follows the rule from this lesson! It comes from the compound verb رای دادن (to vote, literally "to give a vote"). We take the present stem of دادن (to give), which is ده (dah), and add the suffix ـنده (-ande) to make دهنده (dahande). Put it together, and رای‌دهنده literally means "vote-giver" or "voter".
Why is the verb at the end بدهد instead of می‌دهد?
Because of the word باید (must). When you use باید to express obligation, the main verb that follows it must be in the subjunctive mood. For the compound verb رای دادن (to vote), we add the subjunctive prefix بـ (be-) to the present stem ده (deh) and the ending ـَد (-ad) to get بدهد.
Why is رای‌دهنده singular if it applies to everyone?
In Farsi, the word هر (every/each) is always followed by a singular noun. Just like in English we say "every voter" and not "every voters", Farsi uses the singular رای‌دهنده.
What is the ـات suffix on انتخابات?
The ـات (-at) suffix is a plural ending borrowed from Arabic, commonly used with Arabic loanwords in Farsi. Here, it turns the singular noun انتخاب (choice or selection) into the plural انتخابات (elections).
Why is there a tiny space in the middle of رای‌دهنده?
That is a "half-space" (zero-width non-joiner). In Farsi, compound words like this agent noun use a half-space to keep the two parts, رای and دهنده, visually distinct but still treated as a single word without a full space between them.
