Questions & Answers about آیا شنوندهها گوینده را باور کردند؟
How do we get the word شنونده (listener) from the verb "to listen"?
In Farsi, you can create an "agent noun" (a word for the doer of an action) by adding نده (-ande) to the present stem of a verb. The verb "to hear" or "to listen" is شنیدن, and its present stem is شنو. Add نده, and you get شنونده (listener). The ها at the end of شنوندهها simply makes it plural.
What verb does گوینده (speaker) come from?
It comes from گفتن (to say/speak). This verb has an irregular present stem: گو (gu). When you add the suffix نده (-ande) to a stem ending in a vowel, a "y" sound acts as a bridge to connect them, giving us گوینده (guyande) — literally "the one who speaks."
Why is the word را placed right after گوینده?
The word را marks the specific direct object of a sentence. Because "the speaker" is the specific person receiving the action (the person being believed by the listeners), گوینده needs را right after it to show this grammatical relationship.
The English translation uses "Did", but there is no past tense helper verb early in the Farsi sentence. How do we know it is a past tense question?
In Farsi, yes/no questions are formed by placing the question word آیا at the start of the sentence, which just signals that a question is coming. The tense comes entirely from the compound verb at the very end: (they believed). Together, at the start and at the end translate to "Did they believe?"
