Questions & Answers about پنج سال است که در این نرم‌افزار پیشرفت می‌بینیم.

English uses 'have been seeing'. Why does Farsi use the present tense verb می‌بینیم here?
In Farsi, when an action started in the past and is still happening now, you use the present indicative (the می form). The phrase پنج سال است که (literally 'it is five years that') already shows the time frame, so the verb just shows the ongoing action.
Can I use برای instead of است که to say 'for five years'?
Not for an action that is still ongoing! English uses 'for' to show duration up to now, but Farsi uses the [Time period] + است که structure for things that are still happening. If you used برای پنج سال, it would sound like the action is completely finished.
The word for software is نرم‌افزار. How is this word formed?
It is a direct combination of نرم (soft) and افزار (tool or equipment). It is the exact equivalent of the English word. (Bonus: Hardware is سخت‌افزار, where سخت means hard!)
Why is there no word for 'we' (ما) in this sentence?
Farsi verbs have the subject built right into their endings. The ـیم at the end of می‌بینیم clearly means 'we'. You can add ما at the beginning if you want to emphasize it, but it is very natural to leave it out.
How does the word پیشرفت translate to 'progress'?
It is made up of پیش (forward or front) and رفت (the root for going). So it literally means 'going forward', which is exactly what progress is!
